Chapter 70
by REX-NOVELISTSLin Qianhuan searched every room underground but still found nothing, only a lot of dark ash on her shoes.
“This is really annoying, can’t find anything useful at all.”
She sighed, put the camera back into her space, and didn’t bother taking pictures of the dark walls anymore.
Turning to leave, she suddenly felt a gust of wind mixed with coolness, raising some of the dust on the ground.
The underground laboratory had no ventilation ducts, so where did the wind come from?
Lin Qianhuan instantly became alert, turned on her flashlight, and began to carefully examine the surroundings, following the faint breeze to a wall.
She flicked her lighter, and by the flickering flame, she found a not-so-obvious crack.
“Looks like this is a hidden door.”
Lin Qianhuan pushed hard, but the wall didn’t budge.
“Let me take you through.”
He Lu eagerly took Lin Qianhuan’s hand, and Jiang Xing consciously took Lin Qianhuan’s other hand.
The three of them stepped into the wall in front of them, only to suddenly start falling the next second.
“What’s going on!”
Before Lin Qianhuan could react, Jiang Xing pulled her into his arms.
The feeling of weightlessness enveloped them tightly, and Lin Qianhuan couldn’t do anything but instinctively hug Jiang Xing tightly, falling to the bottom with him.
With two muffled thuds, the three finally landed.
He Lu was the first to get up. She rubbed her butt in surprise, feeling that the ground beneath her feet was particularly soft.
“Doesn’t hurt, luckily we have these things under our feet to cushion us.
Is it dirt?”
She curiously used her flashlight to illuminate the surrounding environment, focusing on the soft ground beneath her feet.
Lin Qianhuan climbed off Jiang Xing, not feeling uncomfortable at all because someone had cushioned her fall.
She reached out and pulled the man up, looking down at her feet in the flashlight’s light, her face turning a bit green.
“This stuff is bone ash.”
Lin Qianhuan quickly brushed off the bone ash on her body, and He Lu wrinkled her nose in disgust.
“Oh god, how disgusting.”
She brushed off the bone ash falling on her body and quickly ran to Lin Qianhuan for comfort.
But the other woman couldn’t care less about her, instead taking out her flashlight and shining it upwards.
This was a deep pit that was a full 6 or 7 meters high, but because the bone ash at the bottom was so thick, they couldn’t determine how deep the pit would be if it were emptied.
“This is probably the place where the test subjects were destroyed.”
Lin Qianhuan wandered around the pit with her flashlight, but saw dense blood handprints on the higher walls.
Perhaps the discarded test subjects thrown in had not yet mutated into zombies, and even retained their human consciousness.
Begging bitterly, desperately trying to climb up and escape, but still unable to avoid being burned alive.
“That’s terrible, I can’t even imagine how desperate those people were.”
Lin Qianhuan said softly, but accidentally tripped over a thigh bone that hadn’t been completely burned, almost falling.
But because of this, she saw a gap less than a centimeter wide next to the thigh bone.
This seems to be an exit?
Lin Qianhuan quickly took a shovel from her space and began digging at the gap.
One shovel after another, the bone ash was thrown aside by her, quickly piling up into a small mountain.
After digging down for about half a meter, the entire gap was revealed.
The surrounding area was uneven, as if it had been manually cut open, and the edges of the iron sheet seemed to have been scorched by high temperatures, slightly bent.
Lin Qianhuan inserted the iron shovel into the gap and pried hard, and the already loose wall immediately broke open, revealing a narrow tunnel that could only allow one person to pass through.
“This tunnel should have been made by the survivors trapped in the pit.”
But those who were thrown into the pit were all failed experimental products, and their bodies must have already been searched by the experimenters, so they would definitely not have tools that could dig through the wall.
So…
Lin Qianhuan’s heart trembled: “Maybe, the experimental subjects that were destroyed were not all failures.
The person who made this tunnel probably awakened their power after being thrown into the pit.”
That would make sense. The predecessors planted the trees, and the descendants enjoy the shade. The person who dug the tunnel successfully left through it.
Some of the subsequent experimental subjects that needed to be destroyed also accidentally discovered this tunnel.
While still retaining their sanity, they escaped along here, but still couldn’t avoid becoming zombies.
This is why Yuncheng had already seen many scattered zombies before the end of the world broke out.
How terrible, when the researchers in the sanatorium discovered this, they were no longer able to save it. Perhaps they could only block the passage from the outside and pretend that nothing had happened.
Lin Qianhuan crawled outward along the tunnel, and sure enough, she was blocked by a pile of rocks and couldn’t dig open the obstacles to escape.
The sanatorium did a good job of burying its head in the sand.
Although they didn’t dig up any deeper secrets, they at least got some results after working so hard for most of the day.
With He Lu’s power, the three of them successfully escaped from the underground by passing through the obstacles deep in the tunnel.
Bathing in the gentle spring sunlight, Lin Qianhuan’s mood was a little heavy.
“What’s wrong?”
Jiang Xing helped her tidy up her slightly messy hair, his gaze fixed on her alone.
Lin Qianhuan took out a bottle of mineral water and took a big gulp: “Do you experimental subjects have any communication with each other?
Who do you think it was that dug open this tunnel and escaped?
He must know some deeper secrets about the sanatorium.”
Successfully escaping the sanatorium after becoming a person with powers, this guy is indeed capable.
Jiang Xing and He Lu thought for a while, and a figure appeared in their minds at the same time.
“A-306!”
“A-306!”
Their voices sounded at the same time, obviously with a deep impression of this person.
He Lu was the first to speak: “That guy was very strange. He underwent many experiments in the laboratory, and each time he withstood the modification of the agents on him.
Those doctors were ecstatic, thinking that he, like us 10, was an experimental subject that could continue to be modified and evolved, so they placed him in the sanatorium on the ground and lived with us for one day.”
Although they lived in different wards of the sanatorium, they could peep at each other through the iron bars on the doors.
A-306, the new experimental subject, was naturally given extra attention by these old experimental subjects for a period of time.
But on the very night he moved to the sanatorium on the ground, an accident happened.
After the new agent was injected into his body, this guy actually died silently and sloppily.
The doctors and nurses went crazy for a while, but they had no choice but to throw A-306 into the pit for incineration.
Such a big commotion naturally alarmed Jiang Xing and the others, which is why even now, the old experimental subjects still have an impression of this person.
Lin Qianhuan sighed helplessly, there was one more person to look for.
She always felt that the day to solve the mystery was still very far away.
