Lin Qianhuan chuckled, “I’m at least a base leader, what are you? Just a district chief. I wouldn’t even want you to shine my shoes, your hands are too dirty. What are you barking about here?”

Her words caused a stir of exclamations from the surrounding people. The residents huddled together to resist the cold wind, their eyes filled with shock.

Someone actually dared to speak to Hao Chengzhi like that? Just what was the background of this living Buddha?

Hao Chengzhi lost face in public, his face as black as if ink could drip from it. “It’s just sending some supplies to the Beiling Base, does that make you think you’re the savior? You come crawling up with a smile, just trying to take this opportunity to build a good reputation for yourself? I’m telling you, no way!”

Lin Qianhuan thoughtfully nodded. “Oh? Indeed, after all, no matter who in the entire Beiling Base lacks supplies, you won’t. Eating until oil drips from your mouth, bundled up like a ball, you must have swallowed a lot of public resources, right?”

Before Hao Chengzhi could retort, Lin Qianhuan turned to look at Ye Anqi, “Sister Anqi, I brought the supplies, so I should be able to choose who to give them to and who not to, right?”

Ye Anqi nodded, “Naturally.”

A smile lifted the corner of Lin Qianhuan’s lips, “In that case, Hao Chengzhi is not allowed to use any of the things I brought. Not only that, but his family, relatives, and friends can’t use them either.”

Hao Chengzhi’s eyes widened suddenly when he heard this, “What do you mean! Why can’t I use them! Aren’t these supplies you brought supposed to be distributed to the survivors of the Beiling Base? I’m also a resident of the Beiling Base, why don’t I get any? Your differential treatment is too much! Not only do you slander me for embezzling supplies, but now you’re also withholding the charcoal and fireplace that should have been sent to my home. How can you be so vicious!”

Lin Qianhuan looked at him with great interest, tilting her head, “I slandered you? If what I said wasn’t true, then where did the down jacket and cold-proof boots you’re wearing come from? Food is scarce now, and while all the residents are starving and skinny, you’re eating until you’re fat. Everyone has frostbite to some extent, even the base leader’s hands are full of chapped wounds. But look at you, like a pig just out of the pen, white, fat, and round. How do you explain that?”

A trace of guilt flashed in Hao Chengzhi’s eyes, but he didn’t lose his composure because of it.

But a strong sense of resentment suddenly surged in the eyes of the surrounding residents, staring at him intently, their fists hanging by their sides trembling slightly.

Slander? This was clearly the truth!

The Beiling Base was already short of supplies. Although it had traded with the Xiangyang Base for supplies in the early days of the extreme cold, it was far from enough for millions of people to use.

Although supplies were scarce, if they could be distributed evenly, the situation in the base would improve to some extent, and there wouldn’t be bones everywhere.

But these district chiefs and building heads put all the supplies that should have been distributed to the residents into their own pockets.

They sang and danced every night, eating until oil dripped from their mouths, and the inside of their houses was as warm as spring.

In contrast, the survivors at the bottom were scantily clad, unable to fill their stomachs, and could only use the ice and snow on the eaves to satisfy their hunger.

Hate, who didn’t hate?

But what could they do about it?

These people protected each other, only leaking some supplies from between their fingers to give to the skinny survivors, letting them eke out a living but not starving to death.

But how was that enough?

Everyone wanted to resist, wanted to report to the higher-ups of the base, but this kind of behavior was useless.

Once someone gathered a crowd to make trouble or reported out of turn, the building head would cut off the supplies for everyone in the entire building.

Everyone lived on that little bit of food, relying on a few scattered pounds of charcoal to keep warm.

If even these were cut off, it would really be taking their lives.

Resistance was fruitless, and there was no way to ask for help. This was the current situation of the survivors at the bottom of the Beiling Base.

Because of this, even if Ye Anqi stood in front of them, no one dared to tell the truth.

Hao Chengzhi and the district chiefs and building heads of each district had deep relationships. They covered up each other’s crimes, and maintained and shielded each other.

They held high positions and had absolute say. Their status was so high that it could not be shaken by the united survivors at the bottom.

This despair had long since numbed everyone, living one day at a time, earning one day at a time.

Hao Chengzhi raised his hand and straightened his thick coat, and a defiant smile appeared on his face again. “I can eat my fill and dress warmly because I had enough supplies stored before the extreme cold. My food, clothing, and expenses are all exchanged for bags of crystal cores. Why are you pointing fingers at me?”

Lin Qianhuan raised her hand and touched her chin, pretending to be thoughtful. “I see, so I misunderstood you?”

Hao Chengzhi was just about to raise his head and sneer, but was once again countered by Lin Qianhuan. “It’s been at least several months from the beginning of the extreme cold until now. I would like to ask District Chief Hao just how rich you are, that you were able to store several months’ worth of food, which you still haven’t finished eating today. And these cold-proof clothes, cold-proof boots, and scarves and hats, were ridiculously expensive in the early days of the extreme cold. District Chief Hao, could it be that you’re the richest man in the Beiling Base?”

Lin Qianhuan covered her mouth in feigned surprise, “Then I’m really too envious of you. Not just you, I see that Jiang Weiliang, the younger brother of the building head of Building 231, doesn’t have bad food, clothing, and expenses either. Looking at it this way, the district chiefs and building heads of the Beiling Base are all big tycoons!”

Ye Anqi’s eyes were particularly cold, and she scanned Hao Chengzhi’s particularly warm clothes and fat, bloated body up and down. She thought that last war would have taught these people a lesson. But she never thought that they would dare to join forces to deceive her? They were really tired of living.

Before Hao Chengzhi could speak to defend himself, Ye Anqi had already lost her patience and made a silent gesture to him. “Shut your mouth, otherwise I’m afraid I won’t be able to control my hands and will take your dog’s life on the spot.”

Hao Chengzhi’s pupils shrank, and he swallowed the words that were about to come out of his mouth, his face terribly bad. But he really didn’t dare to provoke Ye Anqi. Because this woman was a complete madman, who killed people without batting an eye, and showed no mercy.

Ye Anqi stood in place and calmed her breathing, and said to the secretary behind her, “Go and call all the district chiefs and building heads in the Beiling Base to the office building for a meeting.”

The secretary was a little embarrassed, “Base Leader, all of them? Wouldn’t this…”

Ye Anqi glanced at him lightly, scaring him into swallowing all the words he hadn’t said. “No problem, Base Leader, I’ll go and notify them right away!”

The secretary left in a hurry with his men, Ye Anqi walked forward and grabbed Hao Chengzhi’s collar, punching him in the bridge of the nose. Everyone present didn’t expect her to strike directly, including Lin Qianhuan.

“It was you who knelt in front of me and begged me to let you go, saying that you would definitely turn over a new leaf and be a new person.” Ye Anqi’s voice was as cold as ice, and then she punched him again, hitting Hao Chengzhi’s left eye socket. “If it wasn’t for the shortage of manpower and your influence in the base, do you think I would have kept your dog’s life?”
