“Really didn’t expect it.
The base chief of Free Base, Mr. Gu—who on the surface appears so sunny and cheerful—turns out to be a guy who relishes human flesh and keeps zombies as pets.”

Lin Qianhuan strode up to the cage where the zombies were confined, raised her hand, and knocked lightly twice, causing the already agitated zombies to start banging wildly against the bars.

She examined them carefully—there were three zombies in all. Although their skin had turned ashen and their faces had begun to twist, one could still barely discern the shapes of who they had been in life: a middle-aged couple and an old man.

“‘Who are they to you?’”

Lin Qianhuan turned to look at Gu Liansheng without any trace of the nervousness of being schemed against by someone else.

“‘They are my parents and my grandfather.’”

Gu Liansheng grinned happily:
“‘Our family is meant to be together, and now they will never leave me again.’”

He reached into the freezer in the corner and yanked out a shriveled corpse, its surface covered in frost—no doubt frozen for a long time.

“‘Time to eat. The last time I fed them was half a month ago; they must be starving by now, right?’”

Opening a narrow door, Gu Liansheng tossed the corpse inside, letting the zombies in the cage furiously devour it.

He squinted and smiled:
“‘They eat so deliciously. Unlike me, who only managed to have a proper meal after the apocalypse. It’s such a pity—after turning into zombies, you all forget everything. Otherwise, your expressions right now should be quite something.’”

As if struck by a thought, Gu Liansheng even burst into laughter.
“‘After all, what you’re eating now is none other than your own biological daughter, your own granddaughter…’”

Lin Qianhuan stood rooted to the spot, a bit overwhelmed, and after a moment of contemplation she asked,
“‘So, the corpse you tossed in—is that your own biological sister?’”

Gu Liansheng nodded solemnly:
“‘Yes, that’s my own sister.’”

He smiled, flashing a set of white teeth:
“‘My sister died on the day she awakened her supernatural ability—she was burned to death by a high fever. I went to great lengths to prevent her corpse from decaying.’”

Lin Qianhuan merely shrugged, remaining silent. Suddenly, she lost any desire to engage with this pervert—her mind just couldn’t align with his.

During their conversation, Liang Zhaoxi stumbled toward a shelf laden with various bottles and jars. He searched desperately, and finally, he halted in front of a bottle about the size of a can of yellow peach. Inside, the bottle was filled with formalin, and submerged in the liquid was a hand.

The back of that hand bore a heart-shaped scar—it was the hand of Liang Anyu, Liang Zhaoxi’s own younger brother.

“‘Ah!’”

He collapsed as he clutched the bottle to his chest, tears streaming uncontrollably, his whole body trembling.

“‘Why! Why on earth would you do this! You’re damned, Gu Liansheng, you bastard!’”

Liang Zhaoxi went mad, trying to rush toward Gu Liansheng at the edge of the cage; but in the next moment, his expression suddenly shifted.

“‘Brother Liang, don’t be hasty.’”

All control over his body was lost—Liang Zhaoxi could not put up any resistance. Gu Liansheng manipulated his body, raising his hand to caress the glass jar in his palm.

“‘So quickly you found your brother, huh. He’s become one of my most cherished collectibles.’”

A grotesque smile curled at the corner of Gu Liansheng’s lips, his expression one of utter delight. Yet that smile, now appearing on Liang Zhaoxi’s face, was jarringly horrifying.

“‘The day I ate Liang Anyu’s left leg, my father devoured the son he had with another woman. The day I ate Liang Anyu’s right leg and both arms, my mother devoured the daughter she had with another man. But unfortunately, my grandfather got nothing to eat.’”

Gu Liansheng’s voice lowered:
“‘Because my grandmother turned into a zombie, they couldn’t resort to cannibalism among their own kind. So I fed the crystal core from my grandmother’s head to my grandfather. He ate it with such delight.’”

Liang Zhaoxi tried frantically to resist, but could only watch, helplessly, as his enemy took over his body—stroking the remnants of his own brother.

“‘After my parents divorced, my sister and I depended on each other since childhood and grew up together. We were both unwanted, wild children. They each formed new families but treated my sister and me as stains, subjecting us to endless humiliation and torment. But it didn’t matter—I could do without them and raise my sister on my own. Just when things were looking up, the apocalypse struck, and she died right before my eyes.’”

The hand holding the glass jar suddenly clenched tightly, and Gu Liansheng’s face contorted into madness.

“‘Now that my sister and I are separated by the veil between life and death, why should you and Liang Anyu be allowed to live peacefully as brothers? The suffering I have endured must be made to be tasted by both of you! Are you happy, Liang Anyu? Your brother was devoured by me, bite by bite, while you remained completely unaware—indeed, you even regarded me as your lifesaving benefactor, constantly pondering how to repay my kindness. And you know what? Even on his deathbed, he was worried about those ordinary, trash-like people outside, begging me not to harm them, so that the tragedy that befell him would not be repeated on someone else.’”

Gu Liansheng laughed maniacally without restraint, and was just about to reach out and grab Liang Zhaoxi by the neck when he suddenly felt a piercing pain in his brain—the supernatural ability being ruthlessly severed.

“‘What are you doing?!’”

He turned his gaze toward Lin Qianhuan, his eyes bloodshot.

“‘Mind your own business. You think you can live longer than him? I’ve already made up my mind—his flesh can be used for soup, but your flesh is even more tender; stir-fried over high heat, it must taste just as wonderful.’”

Gu Liansheng unleashed his supernatural power in an attempt to control Lin Qianhuan, but she effortlessly broke through it.

“‘How stupid—so stupid that I almost pity you.’”
