Lin Qianhuan ignored his pleas for mercy, kicked the dagger out of the man’s hand, and slightly tightened her grip on the gun.
“Are you an original resident of Silver Bay Gardens, or are you from the new group?”
The man nervously swallowed, raising both hands high: “I… I originally lived here.”
Lin Qianhuan narrowed her eyes upon hearing this: “Oh? Really? Then what number villa did you originally live in?”
“Number 1, I lived in Villa Number 1.”
Lin Qianhuan’s expression turned stern, and she suddenly kicked him in the chest.
“Bullshit! The doors and windows of Villa Number 1 were already destroyed by me. The owner has already moved elsewhere, how could you possibly live there!”
Seeing his lie exposed, the man struggled to get up from the ground, forcing himself to swallow the bloody taste rising in his throat.
“I’ll talk! I’m newly moved in, but I am indeed related to the owner of Villa Number 1. I used to be an electrician, and the owner of Villa Number 1 is my cousin. Before the signal disappeared, he complained to me that Villa Number 36 in Silver Bay Gardens had a lot of supplies, but it was protected by electric fences and high walls, making it difficult to snatch resources from you. I was quite tempted at the time, but because it was too far away, I never dared to come over. But the West Suburbs are getting more and more chaotic. I happened to meet a lot of survivors on a bus who wanted to escape to the East Suburbs to make a living, so I thought about trying my luck on your side.”
His voice grew softer as he spoke, and after finishing, he obediently lowered his head, waiting for his fate.
Lin Qianhuan tapped his brow with the muzzle of the gun: “An insulated ladder is so heavy, I don’t believe you would carry a ladder while taking the bus. If you dare to hide anything else, I guarantee this gun will take your life in the next second.”
The man hurriedly said, “I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything! I’m not alone, I have accomplices. One of them is a space-type Superpower user. He put the ladder and insulated clothing in his space and brought them over for me. My purpose in coming to your house tonight is…”
His hands trembled nervously, and he continued with a stiff neck, “The purpose is to kill you three siblings in your sleep, then occupy Villa Number 36 and seize your supplies!”
In this situation, he was undoubtedly going to die, so he might as well tell everything and strive for a quick and clean death, suffering less torment.
Jiang Xing had already woken up when the man landed from the wall, standing quietly behind Lin Qianhuan without speaking.
Lin Yixuan and Lin Wansheng on the second floor were also vaguely awakened by the noise downstairs, and they put on coats and went downstairs.
The four of them surrounded the man in a pincer formation, and the intense pressure almost made him faint.
“So how did you manage to make those zombies ignore your existence?” Lin Qianhuan still had doubts in her mind, and then asked.
“I’m an Superpower user. My ability is to change the smell on my body, hiding the human smell and aura that belongs specifically to me. This way, I can fool those low-level zombies.”
Lin Qianhuan raised her eyebrows in surprise upon hearing this.
She had long known that Superpower came in many forms, but she didn’t know there was such a practical Superpower.
The world is truly full of wonders.
Although this person’s Superpower had no offensive power, it was a good way to save his life.
He certainly had no chance of winning against humans, but when faced with a zombie siege, he could completely rely on his Superpower to escape.
Lin Qianhuan felt a little regretful.
If this man didn’t do these petty tricks, he would become a rising star in the Superpower team when the safe zone was established.
The Superpower he possessed could be used to scout situations, transmit information, and determine routes.
It was an excellent life-saving skill.
It was a pity that this guy had to come to Villa Number 16 to seek death. Lin Qianhuan would never let him go just because of his Superpower.
She stood lazily in front of the man, looking down at the cowering figure below.
“How many accomplices do you have, and where are they all living now?”
“Three! They all live in Villa Number 31 now. One space-type Superpower user, one wood-type Superpower user, and another is a strength-type Evolver. We met while fleeing, and just happened to hear me talk about Villa Number 36, so we decided to work together on this.”
Before Lin Qianhuan could say anything, the man explained all his secrets.
“What exactly happened in the West Suburbs that made so many of you flee to the East Suburbs at the same time?” This was the question that puzzled Lin Qianhuan the most. In theory, most survivors in the apocalypse would live in their familiar surroundings, mainly to understand the surrounding terrain and the distribution of supplies. Unless absolutely necessary, few people would be willing to cross half the city to live on the other side.
The man couldn’t help feeling a little scared when he heard this, thinking of the scene he had seen.
“Those who came to Silver Bay Gardens are actually from the same community. We used to live in Phoenix Community in the West Suburbs. Just the day before yesterday, a zombie dog suddenly appeared in the community. It had a keen sense of smell, was extremely fast, and most importantly, had strong defense, virtually impervious to blades and bullets. Many people in the community were eaten by it in one bite. We knew that place was not safe to stay for long, so we ran out in droves. Luckily, there was a bus driver among the survivors who brought the car keys and gave us a ride.”
Lin Qianhuan couldn’t help but frown slightly upon hearing this. After all, mutated animals were much more difficult to deal with than zombies.
Before the apocalypse, humans relied on technology to be at the top of the food chain, but after the zombie virus outbreak, animals evolved to be even more ferocious and dangerous.
Zombies’ diet only consisted of the crystal cores of their own kind and human flesh and blood.
But mutated animals were ruthless characters that could even chew on zombies and swallow them.
In her previous life, the thing Lin Qianhuan hated encountering the most was mutated animals. Their attack power and defense were both exceptionally strong. Even if an Superpower team encountered one of these guys, they always had to pay some price to barely deal with it.
As she was thinking, a rigid mechanical voice came from her mind.
[A limited-time mission has been issued: Please kill a mutated animal within three days.]
[Mission Reward: Submachine gun ×1, bullets ×100, water well ×1.]
Lin Qianhuan bit her back molars tightly, making a slightly sharp rubbing sound.
‘You don’t even ask me if I accept the mission now, do you?’
She verbally attacked the Spirit Spring System in her heart, but received no response from it.
Lin Qianhuan leaned desperately on the sofa, feeling somewhat hopeless.
The missions issued by the system were always dangerous and difficult, but the mission rewards were indeed generous, making her drool.
A submachine gun had plenty of firepower and could completely deal with a large group of zombies attacking from afar.
And the water well could solve her problem of water shortage. She couldn’t refuse either of them.
The only thing that made Lin Qianhuan feel relieved was that the system gave her three days, so she didn’t have to rush directly into battle with the mutated animal in a panic.
