“She went to Mount Wutai early in the morning, saying that the Bodhisattva there is very effective and asked the Bodhisattva to bless you with peace,” the woman replied.

“Oh, so it seems that I survived this disaster because my mom prayed to the Bodhisattva,” I said with certainty.

“Yes, good people are rewarded. It must be your kindness that moved the Bodhisattva and made the Bodhisattva have compassion,” the woman closed her eyes and made a gesture of putting her hands together.

In the middle of the night, I woke up. While my “wife” was sound asleep, I secretly got up to go to the bathroom.

After closing the door, I walked to a mirror in the bathroom and found that the person in the mirror was not me, but an ordinary-looking man, about thirty-five or six years old.

He had a buzz cut, a thin face, a pair of eyes that were neither big nor small, a high nose, and sparse stubble above his well-defined lips.

The next day, when I was discharged from the hospital, my “mother” also came.

I saw that she was short and thin, with gray hair and a wrinkled face.

“My son, the Bodhisattva has shown mercy, you have finally survived,” my “mother” approached me and cried in a hoarse voice.

I took the initiative to step forward and hugged my “mother” in my arms.

When I got home, I found out that we lived in a remote alley.

A row of bungalows, with two very small bedrooms inside, the kind that can only fit a bed; a living room, the kind that can only fit a dining table, a kitchen with only enough space for one person to enter and exit. There was no bathroom in the house. When we needed to use the bathroom, we had to go out and walk to the other end of the alley, where there was a public toilet.

The family conditions were indeed a bit simple. Although we lived in the city, life was very difficult.

My “father” died early, and my “mother” had been supplementing the family income by collecting garbage all these years. My “wife” worked as a waitress in a restaurant, and I became a security guard at the young age of nineteen, and had been doing it for sixteen years.

“I have been married for almost ten years and have never had children, because ‘my’ body is relatively weak, so I have never let my ‘wife’ get pregnant.

Over the years, I have been rotating as a security guard in several ordinary residential areas. The salary is not high, but I am very frugal. I don’t smoke, drink, or gamble. Every month, I hand over my salary to my ‘wife’ to deposit in the bank.

Over the years, our family has been frugal and saved tens of thousands of yuan in the bank, all of which we saved from the cracks of our teeth. This time, ‘I’ was hospitalized for rescue, which almost spent all of our family’s savings.

In the afternoon, when I went to the security company to report for duty, the company manager was very surprised when he saw me.

“Chen Sanming, you really have three lives! You were sent to the hospital for rescue just the day before yesterday, and you’re coming to work today. Are you okay?” The security company’s Manager Zhang scolded with some annoyance.

“My mom prayed to the Bodhisattva for me, and the Bodhisattva showed mercy and saved my life. I’m all better. This is the discharge certificate that the hospital gave me today,” I said as I handed the discharge certificate to Manager Zhang.

Manager Zhang looked at the discharge certificate and saw that I was full of energy, so he believed me.

“Which Bodhisattva did your mom pray to? So effective,” Manager Zhang asked.

“She prayed to the Bodhisattva on Mount Wutai. My mom said that good people are rewarded,” I replied truthfully.

Manager Zhang nodded and said, “Then this time, I’ll transfer you to work in Green Island Residential Area.”

“Manager Zhang, I still want to go back to work in the previous Zhaoxian Area,” I pleaded.

“Aren’t you afraid of being beaten and hospitalized again? Even the most effective Bodhisattva won’t save you every time,” Manager Zhang kindly advised.

“He won’t dare to hit me again,” I said firmly, my eyes blazing.

Manager Zhang saw my persistence and reluctantly agreed.

I was beaten twice by that big guy in the luxury car. Because I, my family, and the security company did not choose to call the police, the big guy was not severely punished by law, and I had to bear my medical expenses myself.

In the afternoon, when I went to work at the Zhaoxian Area, I reviewed the surveillance video at the entrance of the area on the night of the incident. The picture was a bit blurry, and it was impossible to tell who was who. I only saw two groups of figures moving around.

As soon as I started working at the Zhaoxian Area, several residents of the area surrounded me, all advising me not to work here anymore.

“He won’t dare to hit me again,” I chuckled, as if talking to myself.

Seeing that I didn’t listen to their advice, these residents shook their heads and told me to pay attention to safety. If they saw the big guy driving into the area, they told me to avoid him and never show my face again.

“What does that big guy do?” I asked, looking at the several residents surrounding me.

Just as a young man who was dark and thin was about to tell me, he was immediately stopped by another resident.

“Disaster comes from the mouth, Xiao Zhang, don’t be too talkative,” an old man in his sixties pulled the young man’s clothes and advised.

“Everyone, let’s disperse,” another middle-aged man also persuaded everyone.

These several residents surrounding me then dispersed in a hurry.

After I was discharged from the hospital, I came to work at the Zhaoxian Area for two days. Although I spent most of my time in the guard room and rarely showed my face in the area, and even wore a mask during work hours, I was still recognized by some familiar residents of the area.

Some came into the guard room to advise me to switch to another area, some asked me about the Bodhisattva saving me, and others brought me nutritious items such as eggs and milk powder.

This time, I actually traveled directly from a small pond on Mount Wutai to a modern city and was possessed by a community security guard. This was something I never expected.

Perhaps it was because of the security guard’s mother’s sincere devotion to Buddhism, or perhaps because the security guard often did good deeds, that the Bodhisattva had compassion and allowed me to possess his body, helping him to come back to life.

Now, what I want to know most is where Wen Rourou, Old Lin, and Old Zhang have traveled to. Are they also like me, possessed by another person in need of help?

I took out my phone from my backpack, intending to call the three of them, but found that the phone had no signal.

Today is the third day I have come to work at the Zhaoxian Area after being discharged from the hospital.

My phone has no signal, but it can still take photos and videos. I clicked on the video recording function.

Just a while after I entered the guard room, a resident of the area came to the guard room door to pick up a package. After she found her package, she recognized me and knocked on the guard room door.

After I opened the door, she came into the guard room and said to me in a low voice, “The person who hit you has already entered our area before you took over the shift. You have to be careful!”

“Oh, thank you! Do you know what he does?” I said, looking at the eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl.

“He seems to be the boss who contracted the temple. I heard that he made a lot of dirty money from drug trafficking in his early years and went to jail. This person is very fierce. He has learned boxing and Sanda, and has even been on the city’s Sanda ring and won a championship. People in our area hide when they see him. You must not provoke him,” the girl said and then ran away.

If it is a blessing, it is not a disaster. If it is a disaster, it cannot be avoided.

The little girl just said that the big guy who hit “me” is actually the boss who contracted the temple. It is really unbelievable that such an evil person is associated with temples and Bodhisattvas, which would not tarnish the reputation of temples and Bodhisattvas?

“Beep, beep, beep…”

At noon, many residents of the area were taking a nap. I don’t know who was honking the horn in the area.

I went to the monitoring equipment to take a look. It turned out that a woman was sitting in the car, honking the horn non-stop.
