I quickly jumped off the kang bed, swiftly opened the door, and stepped outside.

Not far away, torchlight illuminated half of the night sky.

I hurried over, and saw a crowd of people holding torches, already forming a circle.

In the center of the circle, I saw a massive wild boar, calmly glaring at them.

I happened to spot the young boy in the crowd.

I patted him on the shoulder. He turned around, saw me, and said that he had just used his slingshot to blind one of the wild boar’s eyes.

Looking at the boar again, I indeed saw blood flowing from one of its eyes.

“Where did this wild boar come from? Are you going to hunt it down?” I asked the boy.

“This isn’t an ordinary wild boar, it’s the Wild Boar King, and it has cultivated into a spirit,” the boy replied.

Standing behind the boy, I looked at the Wild Boar King, who also happened to look at me.

It suddenly howled at me.

Everyone looked at me in surprise, and I felt a little embarrassed.

Even stranger, the Wild Boar King kept looking at me, constantly squealing.

I squeezed into the crowd from behind the boy.

At that moment, the Wild Boar King walked towards me.

“Do you recognize me?” I asked the muscular Wild Boar King.

The Wild Boar King suddenly stopped, looked at me, and stopped squealing.

The people holding torches all burst out laughing.

“Even though it has cultivated into a spirit, it doesn’t understand human language, let alone speak it,” the boy tugged at my clothes, reminding me softly from behind.

Undeterred, I looked at the now quiet Wild Boar King and asked again, “Do you recognize me?”

A bizarre scene unfolded: the Wild Boar King actually nodded at me.

“Can you understand human language?” I asked.

The Wild Boar King nodded.

The people holding torches couldn’t help but be astonished.

“Can you speak human language?”

The Wild Boar King nodded, then shook his head.

“Are you a human?”

The Wild Boar King nodded again, then shook his head again.

Hearing my conversation with the Wild Boar King, the people holding torches became highly vigilant.

At that moment, I saw a person standing behind the Wild Boar King’s rear, taking out a gourd from his belt. After removing the stopper, he aimed the mouth of the gourd at the boar.

This Wild Boar King could understand human language but couldn’t speak it, so it seemed I could only ask it simple questions that could be answered with a nod or a shake of the head.

“You recognize me, so do you know my name?”

The Wild Boar King nodded.

The torch-bearers all laughed.

“Do I know you?”

The Wild Boar King nodded.

“Do you have a name?”

The Wild Boar King nodded.

Seeing the Wild Boar King’s “answers,” I was shocked, as if I had thought of something.

“Is your name Old Lin?”

The Wild Boar King shook his head.

“Is your name Old Zhang?”

The Wild Boar King nodded and started squealing.

“Collect!”

The person standing behind the Wild Boar King with the gourd shouted. In an instant, the Wild Boar King turned into a beam of light and was sucked into the gourd.

“A friend of mine is possessing this Wild Boar King, can you help me ask that person to release the Wild Boar King?” I turned to the boy and said.

“But this isn’t an ordinary wild boar, it’s a Wild Boar King that has cultivated into a spirit. If we release it, it will bring disaster to the village again,” the boy said.

At that moment, the person holding the gourd aimed the mouth of the gourd at me again.

“Collect!” The person with the gourd shouted.

Quick as lightning, I dodged sideways and leaped several meters away.

Then, I quickly got up from the ground.

The person with the gourd had wanted to collect me into the gourd as well, but he missed, and was somewhat frustrated.

“Good heroes, my companion and I were brought to your esteemed country from the Eastern Tang Dynasty by the Garuda. On Golden Summit Mountain, we lost our human forms and could only cultivate by possessing plants or animals. We are not demons or monsters, we are people just like you,” I said, explaining to the person with the gourd and the torch-bearers.

“After losing his human form, my companion possessed a wild boar to cultivate. The wild boar, having brought disaster to the village, has already been collected into the gourd and punished, but please be merciful and release my friend,” I continued.

After hearing my explanation, everyone thought it was a misunderstanding, and they persuaded the person with the gourd to release my companion.

Seeing that everyone was speaking up for me, the person with the gourd had no choice but to uncork the gourd.

“Release!” he shouted.

A beam of light flew out of the gourd and instantly transformed into a person.

This person was about sixty years old, of medium height, with messy graying hair, a pair of black eyes sunken in their sockets, and a salt-and-pepper mustache below a high nose.

“Old Zhang!” I shouted, looking at the person with a hint of excitement.

“Tian Dong!” Old Zhang excitedly called my name.

I reached out my hands and shook Old Zhang’s hand tightly.

“Black Fish Demon is coming! Black Fish Demon is coming! Black Fish Demon is coming…”

In the distance, two or three people holding torches ran while shouting.

The group of torch-bearers around me rushed forward upon hearing the shouts.

“Brother Tian Dong! Old Zhang!”

At that moment, I heard someone calling Old Zhang and me from behind.

As soon as I turned around, Wen Rourou walked quickly to Old Zhang and me, and then said excitedly, “Old Zhang, where did you and Old Lin travel to? Brother Tian Dong and I thought you two had already returned to Jiudong City.”

Old Zhang laughed and said, “I thought you two disliked us old geezers and went back to Jiudong City first.”

As the three of us were joking around, the group of people who had run ahead started running back towards us.

Just as we were wondering what was happening, we heard the people running in front shouting at us, “Run! The Black Fish Demon is coming!”

I saw a dark, blurry thing floating over the ground in the distance, but it wasn’t moving very fast.

As I was struggling to decide whether to run or not, I suddenly heard the melodious sound of a flute coming from mid-air.

The fleeing torch-bearers slowed down upon hearing the flute sound.

I saw a person flying down from mid-air, standing on the village road with his back to us.

He was wearing a gray robe and holding a bamboo flute in his hand.

The person turned around, revealing a radiant face. Although he was over sixty years old, he had an extraordinary and refined aura, completely unlike an ordinary person.

I exclaimed in delight, “Shifu!”

The otherworldly expert nodded, smiling at the three of us and saying, “Have you all been well?”

“Old Lin, how did you learn to fly!” Wen Rourou giggled.

“Old Lin, it looks like you’ve attained enlightenment and become an immortal!” Old Zhang praised with a smile.

At that moment, the torch-bearers gathered around and stood behind Old Lin.

The dark, blurry thing was getting closer and closer.

“The Black Fish Demon is coming!” the torch-bearers shouted loudly, taking out magical instruments to subdue demons.

The boy held his slingshot in his hand, put a steel ball into the leather pouch, pulled back the rubber band, and with a “whoosh,” the steel ball flew towards the dark, blurry thing.

Strangely, after the steel ball shot into the dark, blurry thing, it was silent and there was no reaction.
