ILSITM Chapter 45
by REX-NOVELISTSAfter getting off the plane, I didn’t ask Wen Rourou to pick me up. Instead, I took a taxi directly to the hospital.
It was my first time in San Tong City, but I felt like I had been here before.
Arriving at the hospital, in a private room, a pale, bloodless man of about sixty years old was lying on the bed, his eyes tightly closed, motionless, like a wax figure.
“Hello, Uncle, my name is Ma Tiandong. I’m Rourou’s good friend. I just flew over from Jiudong City. It’s my first time in San Tong City. This city is very beautiful. Although it’s my first time here, I feel like I’ve been here before,” I said, standing by the bed, chattering to Wen Rourou’s father.
Although Wen Rourou’s father was in a deep coma and had no consciousness, I didn’t think so. I felt like he could hear my voice.
Wen Rourou stood to the side, looking at me gratefully.
I stayed with Wen Rourou in her father’s hospital room for an afternoon.
As dinner time approached, Wen Rourou’s mother arrived.
Wen Rourou introduced me to her mother.
“So you’re Ma Tiandong. I often hear my Rourou mention you. Your Auntie has cooked a lot of dishes for you two. Go home and have dinner,” Wen Rourou’s mother said, her face full of kindness.
During these days of Wen Rourou’s father’s hospitalization, Wen Rourou took care of her father during the day, and her mother stayed at the hospital with him at night.
The hospital wasn’t far from Wen Rourou’s house, only a ten-minute walk. Taking a car would be a bit of a detour, so we walked back.
On the way, as we walked through an alley, I suddenly felt a sense of familiarity.
“What alley is this? I feel like I’ve walked through it before,” I told Wen Rourou my intuition.
“Could it be that you traveled to our San Tong City before?” Wen Rourou said with a smile.
“In this alley, is there a house with a pair of stone lions in front of the gate?” I asked.
“Yes! How did you know?” Wen Rourou looked surprised.
Although Wen Rourou was surprised, she thought I was just guessing randomly, so she was still a bit skeptical.
“Has this family been haunted?” I asked eerily.
“Tiandong, don’t scare me!” Wen Rourou’s face turned pale instantly.
“I just feel like I’ve been here before, but my memory is a bit blurry. What are you afraid of? This is your territory,” I laughed.
Seeing me laugh, Wen Rourou grabbed my hand and said, “You said that family was haunted, and that’s really true. I heard my father mention it when I was a child.”
We walked and talked, and soon we saw a house with a pair of stone lions in front of the gate.
As we approached the house, the door suddenly creaked open, and a terribly ugly middle-aged woman walked out.
We were both startled by her face: it was a face with misplaced features, which looked frightening because of its ugliness.
Wen Rourou was so scared that she ran away, and I quickly followed.
After walking twenty or thirty meters, I turned my head and looked back, and found that the woman was following us.
We couldn’t help but quicken our pace, and after walking out of the alley, we turned right and walked along a main street for about a hundred meters before turning into a high-end residential area.
Before entering the gate of the residential area, we glanced at the street, and the woman wasn’t following us.
Wen Rourou lived in a building with a total of 11 floors. Her home was on the 11th floor, a four-bedroom apartment with a floor area of 240 square meters.
Wen Rourou used to live with her parents in an old residential area in a two-bedroom apartment.
After we traveled to the Ming Dynasty, we made quick money by livestreaming and helping fans purchase liquor, amassing a fortune of over a hundred million.
Now that Wen Rourou had money, she bought this apartment and brought her parents to live with her.
The building was equipped with double-door elevators that opened directly into the apartments. As soon as I stepped into Wen Rourou’s home, I couldn’t stop praising the layout: “North-south facing with double balconies, a south-facing business hall spanning three bays, which can also be used as a viewing balcony. It’s a luxurious, flat-floor apartment perfect for enjoyment!”
The functional areas inside the apartment were not only clearly separated for activity and rest, but also for cleanliness. What was commendable was that the living area for the elders and the main bedroom area were also reasonably separated.
The south-facing hall was designed for business purposes, not just a regular dining and living room. The apartment had a separate round-table dining room, and the design of each functional area was carefully considered.
This 11-story building wasn’t particularly tall in the city, but it was the tallest building in this old district.
After dinner, Wen Rourou and I stood on the north balcony, overlooking the old district with its myriad lights.
The alley we had walked through earlier was now lit with streetlights.
Almost every household in the alley had turned on their lights, but the house with the stone lions in front of the gate was the only one that was dark.
I felt like there were eyes staring at Wen Rourou and me in the darkness.
“Tiandong, you said earlier that the house was haunted. Who did you hear that from?” Wen Rourou asked curiously.
“I only vaguely remember that the family was haunted, but I definitely didn’t hear it from someone else. I must have witnessed it myself,” I said confidently.
“Then according to what you’re saying, you must have lived here when you were a child,” Wen Rourou said, looking at me.
“My parents are both native Southerners, and we don’t have any relatives in the North. I started kindergarten locally at the age of three. I never left Jiudong City when I was a kid, so how could I have lived in your northern San Tong City?” I said.
Wen Rourou didn’t say anything, looking thoughtful.
After a while, Wen Rourou said a little embarrassedly, “Tiandong, I don’t know if I should say this, but don’t get angry. My intuition tells me that you might have been born in our San Tong City, and later for some reason, you ended up in Jiudong City.”
“Are you saying that I was abducted from San Tong City to Jiudong City by human traffickers shortly after I was born?” I looked at Wen Rourou, who looked a bit awkward, and fell into deep thought.
“It’s not impossible what Wen Rourou is saying, but my parents really love me. If I wasn’t their biological child, why would they be so good to me?” I pondered to myself.
“My father has type A blood, and my mother has type AB blood. Logically, I can only be one of A, B, or AB, but strangely, my blood type is O,” I suddenly thought of my blood type and said to Wen Rourou.
“Yes, blood types are hereditary. The parents’ blood types directly affect the children’s blood types. Your blood type will never lie,” Wen Rourou said softly.
I nodded.
At this moment, I saw a light flickering in the haunted house.
