Late at night, the old Lu family mansion.

Lei Yun and Chen Jing carefully avoided the security cameras and servants as they traversed the courtyard, arriving at the garden.

“Are you sure it’s here?” Lei Yun asked, looking at the blooming flowers and the rockery lake before him.

Chen Jing nodded. “It’s in this direction.”

They hadn’t had the chance to visit the garden when they first arrived today. Now, in the dead of night, with a clear breeze and a bright moon, they used the moonlight to explore the garden. They stopped at a place called Siwan Pavilion.

“There’s even a courtyard in the garden!” Lei Yun exclaimed in surprise. The Lu family’s old mansion was indeed quite large, and he hadn’t expected such a delicate garden to conceal a small courtyard.

Looking at the tightly locked gate before them, they exchanged glances.

Lei Yun and Chen Jing scaled the wall and jumped inside. A delicate small house came into view.

The house wasn’t large, and it was surrounded by flowers.

“This house is strangely wrong; it doesn’t seem like a place where people live,” Chen Jing said, frowning slightly.

Lei Yun coolly replied, “It’s like a mausoleum.”

Chen Jing turned to look at him, nodding in agreement.

“There’s a corpse inside,” Lei Yun said.

“You can only sense the strange aura outside, but you can’t see through to the corpse?”

“Let’s go in and take a look,” Lei Yun suggested.

Chen Jing nodded in agreement.

Just as they were about to go inside and investigate, they suddenly heard a light sound of footsteps from outside.

The two of them carefully hid behind a flower bush, holding their breath. Through the gaps in the foliage, they saw a middle-aged man walking in. He was wearing a simple black shirt and white trousers, and had glasses on, looking very refined and handsome.

The man was holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand. He strode into the small house and closed the door behind him.

The originally dark house lit up. Lei Yun and Chen Jing carefully went to the side of the house, peering through the windowpane.

Inside the small house, there was only a canopy bed with gauze curtains, a table, four stools, and a memorial tablet.

Lei Yun struggled for a while before making out the words on the tablet: “Beloved Wife, Qin Wan.”

Qin Wan was the second aunt Lu Wen had mentioned. Could the man inside be Lu Wen’s second uncle, Lu Jianbei?

They saw him walk to the canopy bed, lift the gauze curtain, and place the flowers next to the beautiful woman lying on the bed, gently stroking her face with his large hand. Unfortunately, their position only allowed them to see the bedside, but not the outside.

“Xiao Wan, I’ve come to see you,” Lu Jianbei said tenderly, looking at the woman on the bed. His large hand gently stroked her face.

“Soon, I’ll be able to wake you up.”

As he said this, the bracelet on the woman’s hand suddenly flashed with a glimmer of light.

Lu Jianbei was overjoyed to see this, saying repeatedly, “Xiao Wan, I’m willing to go out to see you.”

Although Lei Yun and Chen Jing couldn’t see what was happening inside, they could hear the voices. Although they were very puzzled, they were certain that Lu Jianbei was talking to his wife, Qin Wan. But Qin Wan had long since passed away. Why did he say Qin Wan was willing to see him?

Lei Yun frowned slightly. Could it be what he suspected?

Chen Jing glanced at Lei Yun, her eyes clear and hot, and mouthed, “The Yin energy here is very heavy.”

Lei Yun naturally felt it too, but it was only average for him. Chen Jing, however, found it extremely heavy. He nodded.

This place was indeed strange.

Just then, a hand suddenly appeared on the edge of the canopy bed, wearing a red string bracelet with a white jade stone at the end.

It was a man’s hand!

At that moment, the woman’s hand moved slightly, her fingers curling up.

Lu Jianbei was overjoyed. He gently embraced his wife and whispered, “Xiao Wan, I knew you wouldn’t ignore me.”

At this time, Qin Wan slowly opened her eyes, her face weak, her eyes filled with blame and regret.

“I’m acting like a fool!” Qin Wan sighed.

Lu Jianbei ignored her words, simply holding her tightly in his arms, gently whispering in her ear, “As long as you’re here, as long as you’re here, I don’t care about anything else.”

They didn’t say much more before Qin Wan returned to her lifeless state. Lu Jianbei reluctantly laid her down, gently covering her with the quilt, kissed her forehead, put down the gauze curtain, went to the side to turn off the light, and then turned to leave.

Lu Jianbei seemed to be in a very good mood as he left, the corners of his lips slightly upturned. He strode out of the small courtyard and locked the door behind him.

After he left, Lei Yun and Chen Jing flashed into the house.

The house was pitch black. They could only see a woman lying on the bed by the moonlight.

Her sleeping face was peaceful. Neither Lei Yun nor Chen Jing’s movements had woken her, which was indeed abnormal.

Lei Yun reached out and placed his hand near the woman’s nose. There was no breath.

“It’s a corpse,” Lei Yun said to Chen Jing.

Chen Jing frowned, puzzled. “The Yin energy here is too heavy. The source is from this woman’s body, but she’s actually a corpse.”

“You clearly saw her move just now.”

Lei Yun also said, “I saw it too.” With that, he began to look around the room.

The room was sparsely furnished, with nothing superfluous.

“The person inside is Qin Wan, but how could she be resurrected?”

Lei Yun was also pondering Chen Jing’s question. He looked outside and said, “It’s getting late. Let’s go back first and take another look tomorrow.”

Chen Jing nodded, and the two carefully slipped out of the courtyard.

Back at the courtyard where they were staying, a servant said, “Esteemed guests, this is a midnight snack specially prepared by the kitchen. The housekeeper instructed me to bring it over to you.”

Lei Yun smiled and took the snack, saying, “Thank you.”

The servant asked, “Where is the other young lady?”

Before she could finish speaking, Lei Yun interrupted, “She went to bed early.”

The servant glanced at Chen Jing’s room, which was dark. She nodded and said, “After you’re done, just leave the dishes in the living room. I’ll come and collect them early tomorrow morning.”

Lei Yun nodded. “Thank you for bringing it so late.”

The servant smiled and turned to leave.

In the room, Chen Jing sat at the table, looking at the food Lei Yun had brought with some confusion.

“I guess Lu Jianbei is checking the rooms?” Lei Yun put down the plate. It contained a small bowl of glutinous rice balls.

“Looks pretty good. These should be Osmanthus glutinous rice balls from the South. Would you like a bowl?” Lei Yun asked Chen Jing with a smile.

Chen Jing didn’t refuse, replying, “Give me a bowl.”

“This Lu Jianbei is really not simple,” Lei Yun said, taking a bite of the glutinous rice balls. “They’re quite delicious.”

Chen Jing nodded. “They’re much better than the ones in the North.”

“We should investigate Lu Jianbei properly tomorrow. But this Qin Wan is really strange. A dead person actually came back to life, but we didn’t find anything strange about her.”

Chen Jing suggested, “Let’s take a good look again tomorrow.”
