RI Chapter 12
by REX-NOVELISTSWhen Hu Lanlan arrived at the village, she saw Lei Yun sitting alone in the square, the surrounding atmosphere looking particularly gloomy, his brow furrowed.
“Old Lei, what’s wrong?” Hu Lanlan left Feng Lao Er and the other two and gently stepped forward to ask.
Lei Yun rubbed his brow, looked up and smiled, saying, “It’s nothing.” Then he looked at Feng Lao Er and the other two and asked, “These three…?”
“Master, Fairy, please spare our lives.”
Before Lei Yun could say anything, Feng Lao Er preemptively spoke, begging.
Zhao Hui on the side also kept saying, “Spare me, spare me.”
The scar-faced man Qiangzi didn’t say anything, slightly lowering his head, not knowing what he was thinking.
Lei Yun stood up, walked to the three men, and then squatted down in front of the scar-faced man Qiangzi.
“I won’t kill you.”
His voice was very calm, without a trace of emotion, but the three men were overjoyed, especially Feng Lao Er and Zhao Hui, their faces instantly beaming with smiles, saying, “Thank you, Master, thank you, Master.”
The scar-faced man Qiangzi’s body only trembled, but Lei Yun knew he was still happy; his originally stiff back also slightly slumped, indicating a sigh of relief.
“What’s my relationship with Uncle Zhao?”
The scar-faced man Qiangzi’s body stiffened, and he said in a low voice, “I’m just a grave robber. Three years ago, Uncle Zhao saved my life, and I’ve been following him ever since.” He slowly raised his head, looked at Lei Yun, and continued, “Uncle Zhao is very mysterious. I only know that he knows some strange spells, but I don’t know anything else.”
Lei Yun originally wanted to learn about Uncle Zhao’s background from Qiangzi, but now it seems he doesn’t know either.
He looked at Qiangzi’s face, sighed softly, and said to Hu Lanlan, “Lanlan, I’ll leave these three to you.”
Hu Lanlan nodded and led the three men away.
After dealing with these matters, the sun had gradually set, and Lei Yun and Hu Lanlan decided to return to Little Wang Village to stay for the night.
Tonight, Little Wang Village was unusually quiet. As the two walked from the entrance of the village to Wang Xiaohui’s house, they didn’t see a single person.
“Why isn’t there anyone? How strange?” Lei Yun said.
Hu Lanlan looked around, twitching her nose twice, and said, “They’re in the back.”
“In the back?” Lei Yun muttered in confusion, his pace unchanged as he continued forward, wanting to see what was going on.
The spacious courtyard was filled with people, but in the middle, a neat space was left, and a Taoist priest was brandishing a peachwood sword in it, chanting, “Jade Purity receives the mandate, reporting to the Three Realms; Ten directions governed, announcing the decree…”
The Taoist priest instantly emitted a ray of light from his whole body, and then a flame appeared in the air above the incense burner on the table. The Taoist priest circled the table twice, then took out a talisman, blew a breath on it, and instantly the talisman turned into ashes and scattered away.
The surrounding villagers all looked amazed, thinking to themselves, “As expected of a master.”
“The ritual is complete; the old gentleman will recover soon.”
The Taoist priest stroked his sparse beard, quite proud of himself.
Several villagers nearby immediately stepped forward, saying words of thanks, including Wang Xiaohui’s father.
Little Wang Village was a small village with the Wang surname, and due to the inconvenient transportation, they knew very little about the outside world and were therefore very resistant to outsiders.
Although Lei Yun and Hu Lanlan, standing outside the courtyard, could roughly see the scene inside, they still couldn’t help but want to squeeze in and take a look.
Seeing outsiders coming, the villagers asked, “Who are these people? Where are they from?”
Lei Yun originally wanted to explain, but Wang Xiaohui, standing nearby, noticed them and quickly shouted, “Third Uncle, they are my classmates.”
The person called Third Uncle, who was leading the questioning of Lei Yun, relaxed after hearing Wang Xiaohui’s words, and repeatedly said, “This kid of mine, why didn’t you say so earlier that they are your classmates?” He then glanced outside and continued, “The ritual is over. Quickly bring your classmates home and treat them well.”
The Third Uncle was extremely fond of Wang Xiaohui, who lost his mother at a young age but was extremely obedient and sensible, and was also the only college student in the village. Such a good child must have good classmates.
Wang Xiaohui responded, pulling Lei Yun and the other two out of the courtyard.
“Xiaohui, what happened in your village?” Lei Yun couldn’t help but ask.
Wang Xiaohui turned his head and glanced at the courtyard, saying, “It’s nothing much. The great-grandfather suddenly stopped breathing. Everyone thought he was gone and was preparing for the funeral, but somehow, the great-grandfather suddenly came back to life.”
“Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but then, inexplicably, the great-grandfather fainted again, and even though he felt like he wasn’t breathing, he couldn’t move.”
Wang Xiaohui’s voice suddenly became a little puzzled, “To be honest, I also find it strange. How can a person live and die again?”
“Uncle Ga Zi in the village suggested that we invite a Taoist priest to take a look, to see if he bumped into something. Everyone discussed it and agreed. We invited a Taoist priest from the town early this morning, and now he’s just finished the ritual.”
“He lived, then died again, but he wasn’t breathing?” Lei Yun asked back.
Wang Xiaohui nodded, “Yes, it’s really strange.”
Lei Yun frowned slightly, glanced at Hu Lanlan, and it was clear that she didn’t see anything wrong either.
“Xiaohui, after your great-grandfather woke up, did he have any other unusual behavior?”
Wang Xiaohui shook his head, took two steps, and then suddenly stopped, saying in a low voice, “There is one unusual thing: somehow, the great-grandfather suddenly demanded to eat chicken.”
“Eat chicken?” Hu Lanlan interjected, asking.
Seeing Hu Lanlan interject, Wang Xiaohui was somewhat pleased, quickly saying, “Yes, in theory, the great-grandfather is so old, his teeth should be long gone. We’ve never seen him want to eat these things before, but my aunt said that the great-grandfather might be too hungry.”
“Everything else is the same as usual.”
“Oh right, Brother Lei, didn’t you guys go to Liujia Village? How was it?”
Wang Xiaohui suddenly became interested and quickly asked.
Lei Yun grinned and said, “It was nothing. We just took a look at the scenery and didn’t find anything special.”
“That’s good.” Wang Xiaohui nodded, but then said with some regret, “If only I had gone with you.”
“Hey, by the way, did you guys run into that scar-faced woman from the train?”
Hu Lanlan quickly shook her head and said, “No, there wasn’t a single person there.”
The three men walked and talked until they arrived at the door of Wang Xiaohui’s house. Wang Xiaohui pushed open the door and said, “Brother Lei, Sister, we’re still staying in that room. You come and cook.”
After saying that, regardless of Lei Yun and the other two, he quickly ran towards the kitchen. Lei Yun and the other two exchanged glances, and Hu Lanlan turned around and walked towards the kitchen.
Inside the room, Lei Yun opened Uncle Zhao’s gourd, and a trace of red mist floated out, quickly transforming into a man wearing a Qing dynasty-style robe. The man was none other than the missing Li Fang.
“Innkeeper Lei,” Li Fang said.
“Li Fang, how were you captured?”
Li Fang slightly lowered his head and said softly, “That day, I followed the location of his reincarnation to search, and unknowingly arrived at Liujia Village. I am a Yin spirit, and at first, I thought that person was just an ordinary person, but who knew that he was actually an evil cultivator. I was no match for that evil cultivator, and that’s how I was captured by him.”
Li Fang suddenly knelt down, saying, “Innkeeper Lei, I went to great lengths to find you and save you, your kindness…”
Before Li Fang could finish speaking, Lei Yun said, “It’s nothing. Since I accepted your commission, I must protect you and fulfill your wish.” After saying that, he stepped forward and made a gesture of helping her up.
Li Fang took the opportunity to quickly get up and stood aside.
“Did you find the person you were looking for?”
Li Fang slightly shook his head and said, “I don’t know why, his aura is being blocked.”
Lei Yun nodded and continued, “Now you are no longer in danger.” He then handed her the talisman, saying, “Keep the talisman safe. I will wait for you at the inn.”
Li Fang nodded, bowed, and disappeared from the room.
“Brother Lei, dinner’s ready!” Wang Xiaohui’s voice rang out from outside. Lei Yun shook his head, hummed a tune, and strode out.
