HIADDYTHIAMOCI Chapter 18
by REX-NOVELISTS“Knock, knock, knock.”
It was obvious which houses in the Old City District hadn’t been demolished; they were surrounded by construction sites.
Lin Yuan hadn’t knocked for long when a weathered face appeared before him.
“Hello, Uncle. I’m from District C Police Station. I’d like to talk to you about the Wang Zhiyan case.”
The old man didn’t look pleased after he heard this. He glanced at Lin Yuan before letting him in.
The furnishings inside were simple, two rooms, both kept clean and tidy. An old woman was sitting on the sofa, her legs clearly having problems.
Compared to Wang Zhiyan’s father’s coldness, his mother was much more approachable, her eyes filled with smiles as she looked at Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan nodded.
“Even if he wasn’t our biological son, we raised him. He’s our son,” the old man said sternly.
“Yuan Xiao?”
Neither of them were literate and didn’t understand the things written in their son’s notebook, so they both shook their heads when they heard the name.
“Sounds like a girl’s name. Does she have something to do with my son?” the old woman asked, a little confused.
Judging by their reaction, Yuan Xiao hadn’t been in contact with the two old people in recent years. Lin Yuan understood.
“You could say that. Wang Zhiyan’s diary is full of his affection for this girl.”
The old woman was somewhat surprised.
The police probably hadn’t told them about this when they saw the notebook. Fortunately, they had kept Wang Zhiyan’s belongings in good condition, so the notebook was still intact when it was taken out.
Although she didn’t recognize the words, Wang Zhiyan’s mother’s eyes still reddened.
“It’s all our fault for not working hard enough. If we had earned enough money back then, the child wouldn’t have had to hide it from her family.”
“Don’t say that, it’s all in the past,” Wang Zhiyan’s father said, not liking sentimental words. But his tone softened a lot as he looked at Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan thought about it and decided not to tell them the truth. The matter couldn’t be determined to be Wang Zhiyan’s fault yet; it was just a guess.
“Not really. This girl has gone back recently, and we want to ask if there were any other circumstances back then.”
“For example, did they ever meet?”
“We really don’t know about that…” Wang Zhiyan’s mother glanced at her husband. Generally, sons wouldn’t talk about these things with their parents, and he usually just helped with housework.
This result was within Lin Yuan’s expectations. That wasn’t his purpose for coming.
Since their son’s case was being reinvestigated, the two were naturally willing to cooperate, so they didn’t mind Lin Yuan taking the notebook.
After getting the diary, Lin Yuan didn’t go back. He planned to go to the construction company to take a look.
He called Director Zhang, and the people there were aware of the situation. Lin Yuan met the other party’s secretary smoothly.
The unobstructed skylight offered an excellent view. Lin Yuan was a little curious when he stood by the window. At this time, the secretary also came in.
“Director Lin?”
Shouldn’t people in the police station be in the office all the time?
Since he couldn’t see the person in charge, Lin Yuan couldn’t force them to come. Now that things had reached this point, asking anyone was the same.
“After the Wang Zhiyan incident, we have no choice. We can only give a little less demolition money.”
“Then why is the price lower than the surrounding areas?”
“This… the company’s cash flow wasn’t very good at that time, so we planned to acquire it at the lowest price.”
“Oh?”
Lin Yuan crossed his legs and squinted his eyes, saying:
The secretary was silent for a few seconds, and finally said:
“Director Lin, we are businessmen, and the essence of businessmen is profit. If we can use the lowest price to exchange for greater profits, of course, we will do it.”
This was also the boss’s intention.
Businessmen are cunning, or how else would they make money?
“This reason is fine,” Lin Yuan nodded.
The secretary also breathed a sigh of relief.
“Your Director Xia’s son’s case is still under investigation. Is Director Xia here today?”
“Director Xia has something to do and went out of town, but he is on his way back now.”
Lin Yuan smiled:
“Then remember to come to the police station when he gets back. We have some things to ask him.”
In another space where they were talking, the boss of the construction company had listened to all the conversations. He didn’t close the door until the secretary left:
“It seems like there’s no information about this Director Lin in the District C Police Station.”
The secretary had investigated it early.
“He’s a temporary consultant designated by Director Guan. If he performs well within seven days, he can become a regular employee. He used to be a food delivery worker.”
What could a food delivery worker do?
It wasn’t surprising that they thought so. Zhang Yaozhi knew Lin Yuan’s strength because he had personally arrested him, along with so many suspects.
The police hadn’t publicly announced who solved the case, and there weren’t many people who knew about it.
The answer would be revealed when everything was settled, so Lin Yuan’s appearance would only make people think that District C was about to fail and that they had to invite anyone with a little trick up their sleeve.
The secretary knew that she couldn’t just look at things from her own perspective when doing things.
“Okay, be careful not to let him catch you off guard.”
